To answer the question you wrote on my blog, the strips I use are just 1-1.5" strips of jersey cut with the stretch horizontally (as in they stretch along the length of the strip). You don't have to cut on the bias! Any fabric with decent stretch recovery is fine (thin jersey not so good, cotton with lycra very good), and you can also get ribbing although it's harder to track down.
